Making the Most of your Commercial Fridge: 4 Organizing Tips to Keep Everything Fresh and In-Sight

A commercial fridge isn't cheap. Any commercial restaurant equipment comes with a much higher price than residential kitchen supplies. And after spending the amount of money that you did on your commercial refrigerator, you'll want to get the most use out of it as possible.

One way to do so is by organizing everything in your fridge to save as much space as possible. This will help you use every inch of it. If you're not sure what the best way to organize your commercial fridge is, then you should keep reading.

Here are 4 organizing tips that you need to know about!

1. All Meat on the Bottom

The first thing that you need to know is to place all the meats on the bottom rack. This does not, however, mean to place the meats on the bottom of the fridge. Unfortunately, placing anything on the bottom of the fridge is not allowed in the restaurant industry.

Keeping meats on the bottom shelf helps to prevent cross-contamination and makes cleaning up spills much easier. If you keep all the meat on the bottom shelf together, you can save room throughout the rest of the fridge for all other items.

2. First in Is First Out

When placing any food items inside the fridge, place items in order of first in, first out. All items that need to be used first should be placed at the front of the fridge with all other items behind them. This is a great way to organize because it'll save you from having to throw out expired foods.

When putting new items inside the fridge, make sure your employees know to take the older items out and send the new ones to the back. If expiration dates are hard to read, print them on the items in bold writing.

3. Space Between Items

As much as you want to pile items on top of one another and directly next to one another, you have to leave a bit of space between them. This is because the cold air needs to have room to circulate throughout the entire fridge. Give your fridge at least 3 inches of space between its walls and your food items.

This may seem like a way to take up space rather than save it, but failing to do so will lead to food expiring quicker, which costs you money. It'll also help keep your fridge working properly.

4. Label Everything

The last thing that you should do is label everything. Labeling everything helps keep your fridge organized to its fullest. Everything should also have its own place.

For example, keep all meats on the bottom shelf, keep all veggies together, fruits together, and so on. This type of organization will ensure that you know where everything is at all times. You also won't have to worry about keeping items away from one another on a shelf.

As long as all of your veggies are on the same shelf, you can place them close to one another.
